Hackettstown grower lauds use of solar energy to power farm
Using solar power on a farm makes a lot of sense. There’s a lot of space, and they depend on the sun anyway for their crops.
He also said he was happy to report the installation led to no leaks in the roof and the building is lot cooler inside.
He said he has seen, however, a half of a percent loss per year in efficiency, but said he expects it to still produce a good return after the project is paid off.
He told the crowd during the convention’s alternative energy session that if they were thinking of doing something similar to his solar project to make sure the building can sustain the weight of the panels and to check the warranty on the building.
Donaldson said installing the project voided the warranty he had on his roof.
Though he hasn’t had a problem with the roof, he said it should still be something to consider.
